How to Calculate Yards of Crochet Thread in Finished Project by Weight

I recently started a doily on a whim, sure that I would have plenty to finish the project. I ended up using every last bit of ecru mercerized cotton and skipped the last round of the doily.

close-up-zoom-in-crochet-doily-thread-majestic-pineapples.jpgI have had so much fun making calculators for all of my favorite weights and contents of yarn and now I have one for crochet thread as well. I’ve found some really adorable colors of Size 10 crochet cotton at thrift shops and yard sales but I would hate to get into a doily to discover I couldn’t source more of a vintage thread. This spreadsheet calculator will help me plan projects and prevent problems in the future.

You can use it too! Click here to access my crochet thread yardage calculator. There will be instructions in the document on how to save it and make it your own. It gives grams and yardage for my three most commonly used threads: Aunt Lydia’s, Knit Picks Curio, and Red Heart Classic, as well as an average of them for using unlabeled scraps.

Do you like using thrifted thread? I just adore colorful vintage floral doilies.
